East Ridge Works MVC with Entrapment

EAST RIDGE, TENN – At about 7:20 PM, Wednesday, January 21, 2009, the East Ridge Fire
Department was dispatched to a motor vehicle crash with injuries on Ringgold Road at Scruggs
Road.  East Ridge Squad 2 arrived with minutes and reported a two vehicle t bone style crash with
entrapment.  Two persons were entrapped inside a Geo Tracker that had been struck in the
passenger side by a Nissan Pathfinder.

Squad 2 requested an additional company for manpower and began extrication.  The passenger
side door was removed with the jaws of life as medics with Memorial EMS and Lifeguard EMS began
patient care.  Once the door was removed enough access was gained to be able to package the
passenger and remove him from the vehicle.  Removing the passenger allowed easier access to
the driver.  He was also packaged and removed out the driver’s side door.  Both persons from the
Geo were transported to Erlanger Hospital in critical condition.

The driver of the Pathfinder denied injuries and remained on the scene.  The East Ridge Police
Department is investigating the cause of the accident.
