One Serious After MVC with Entrapment in Fort Oglethorpe

FORT OGLETHORPE, GA – At about 5:15 PM, Monday, January 26, 2009, Fort Oglethorpe Fire
and Rescue responded to 126 Fernwood Drive in reference to a motor vehicle accident with
entrapment.  Battalion Chief Doug Flury (907) was the first to arrive and reported a two vehicle side
impact type crash and confirmed entrapment in a four door Toyota Corolla.  The Corolla suffered
major damage to the passenger side.

Fort Oglethorpe Engine 1 arrived and immediately began extrication using the hydraulic tools.  Due
to the extent of damage to the door on the passenger side and the positioning of the door against
the patient, extreme care had to be used when cutting the door away from the hinges.  Extrication
took approximately thirty minutes with the crew from Fort Oglethorpe Rescue 1 assisting.

Once the victim was extricated from the vehicle, patient care was turned over to medics from Angel
EMS.  The patient was then transported to Erlanger Hospital in serious condition. The driver of the
Corolla and the driver of the second vehicle involved, a Jeep Liberty denied injury.

The accident is under investigation by the traffic division of the Fort Oglethorpe Police Department.
