East Ridge Motorcycle vs School Bus is Fatal

EAST RIDGE, TENN – Shortly after 4:00 PM, Monday, February 9, 2009, East Ridge Squad 2
responded to a motor vehicle accident at Ringgold Road and Camp Jordan Parkway.  The MVC
reportedly was between a motorcycle and a school bus.  Squad 2 is quartered about a block
away and was on the scene almost immediately.  They reported that the driver of the motorcycle
was trapped beneath the bus and requested assistance from Engine 2.  Engine 2 and
Commander Mike Williams (906) responded and upon arrival Commander Williams assumed
command.  He immediately requested an “all call” for additional off duty personnel to assist in the
extrication and reported all hands working.

Using air bags and wooden cribbing firefighters stabilized the bus while medics from Memorial
EMS checked the patient.  They determined that he was deceased and extrication efforts were
ceased at that point.  An additional medic unit from Memorial EMS was also on the scene and
checked the passengers on the school bus for injury.  None of the persons on the bus reported
any injuries.

Once the on scene investigation was completed by the East Ridge Police Department, firefighters
assisted in removing the body from beneath the bus and it was transported to the Medical
Examiners Office.  Traffic investigators have not yet released any cause for the accident or the
identity of the deceased.
