MVC with Overturned Vehicle Blocks Dietz Road

FORT OGLETHORPE, GA – Shortly before 5:30 PM, Fort Oglethorpe Fire and Rescue was
dispatched to a three car crash with a report of two overturned vehicles and entrapment on Dietz
Road at Dyers Bridge Road.  Engine 1 arrived on the scene and found that the occupants of two
of the vehicles, a Dodge Ram pickup truck and a Chevrolet pickup truck had managed to self
extricate.  The occupants of the third vehicle, a Daewoo, were still inside of the vehicle and were
extricated by firefighters after they were packaged for transport.  A total of four patients from the
three vehicles were transported to the hospital by Angel EMS.  Three were taken to Erlanger
Hospital and 1 to Hutcheson Medical Center.

The exact cause of the crash is under investigation however it is believed that the Chevrolet
pickup truck was traveling southbound on Dietz Road when it collided with the northbound Daewoo
head on.  The Chevrolet flipped over and came to rest on its top.  The Daewoo became airborne
and struck the hood of the Dodge Ram that was following behind it.  The accident is being
investigated by the Georgia State Patrol.  The Fort Oglethorpe Police Department and the
Catoosa County Sheriff’s Department assisted at the scene.  Dietz Road was closed in both
directions for about and hour for the investigation and the safety of emergency services workers.
