MVC with Entrapment in Fort Oglethorpe

FORT OGLETHORPE, GA – At about 11:30 PM, Wednesday, August 26, 2009,
during a driving rain storm, Fort Oglethorpe Fire and Rescue was alerted to a
one car motor vehicle accident on Old Mill Lane very near Fire Station 8.
Volunteers from Station 8, Battalion Chief Gary McGhee (908) and Chaplain
Neal Brown (909) immediately responded and located a white Ford Excursion
with the passenger side against a large tree about six houses down from the
station.

The vehicle was occupied by three persons.  The driver appeared unhurt.  The
rear seat passenger was in obvious pain and the most seriously hurt was the
front seat passenger who was also entrapped in the vehicle.  Firefighters
worked to cut the hinges on the passenger door and open it enough to attempt
to remove the victim.  The door would only open a short way due to its position
against the tree.  Firefighters were eventually forced to remove the victim from
the front seat to the rear and then out the driver’s side of the vehicle.

Patient care was turned over to Angel EMS who treated both injured parties
and transported them to an area hospital.  The trapped patient was believed to
be in critical condition when transported and the second patient was stable.

The accident is being investigated by the Georgia State Patrol.  The Catoosa
County Sheriff’s Department assisted at the scene.
