Attic Fire in Catoosa County

CATOOSA COUNTY, GA – At about 2:45 PM, Saturday, December 05, 2009, the Catoosa
County Fire Department was alerted to a residential structure fire at 23 Homewood Drive.
Engine 6 arrived on the scene and reported a two story brick residence with heavy fire and
smoke showing from the attic.  The Engine 6 crew pulled an inch and three quarter attack line
and began to advance it into the front door.

Fort Oglethorpe Engine 8 arrived moments later and the officer from Engine 8 took command.
He ordered Catoosa Engine 1 to lay in from a hydrant down the street.  When crews entered the
structure they immediately advanced to the upstairs and encountered very little smoke and no
fire.  The fire appeared to be isolated to the attic area, and that is where the suppression efforts
were centered.  Fast action and an aggressive attack by firefighters contained the fire to the attic
and roof.

The homeowners were present when the fire started but were able to escape unharmed.  Angel
EMS was on the scene but there were no reported injuries.  It appears that the fire started in the
breaker box where the main service line enters the house but the exact cause and origin are
under investigation at this time.  Catoosa County Quint 3, Battalion 2 (Battalion Chief Jeff
Hullander), FC-2 (Deputy Chief Jim White) and 907 (Fort Oglethorpe Battalion Chief Gary
McGhee) also assisted.
