Three Hurt in Wreck Involving Ambulance

HAMILTON COUNTY, TENN – At about 5:00 PM, Tuesday, December 22, 2008, the Tri
Community Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a three vehicle head on crash on
Standifer Gap Road at Brock Road involving an ambulance.  Several pieces of apparatus
responded and found two vehicles, a Buick Regal sedan and a Honda Civic Coupe that had
collided head on, pushing the Honda backwards into an ambulance from memorial Hospital.

Two people in the Buick were injured and transported to Erlanger Hospital by Hamilton County
EMS.  The driver of the Honda was also injured and firefighters had to use the “Jaws of Life” in
order to open the door and extricate him.  He was also transported to Erlanger Hospital by
Hamilton County EMS.  None of the injuries is thought to be life threatening.  The ambulance
involved in the accident was not transporting a patient at the time of the accident and neither of
the medics inside was injured.

The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the accident and no official cause has
been given.  Witnesses to the accident stated that the Buick was clearly over the center line of
the two lane road which curves and crests a hill at that location.  The final resting spot of the
Buick was on the wrong side of the road.

Standifer Gap Road was closed for about an hour while the accident was being investigated.
Assistance was provided by the Chattanooga Police Department.
